Reaketsetsa, a women’s initiative of Geekulcha, seeks to empower women and girls within the Information and Communication Technology Industry. Together with our proud sponsors, who include The City of Tshwane, mLabSA, The Innovation Hub, Microsoft, Intel and eKasi Labs and ICRD Group Foundation we hosted the very first event of this initiative in South Africa.

This event aimed to raise awareness about the opportunities of the ICT sector and empower girls and young women with the knowledge that careers in ICT can be for them. It also promoted careers and studies to a new generation with an interest in becoming ICT creators. The event aimed to help girls understand the opportunities the ICT sector holds for their future. This day encouraged girls to choose a career in ICT by showing them how these technologies play to their interest and strengths. There were speakers from different departments within the industry who are qualified within their field of expertise. We also had exhibitors who had stands where they displayed some of the work they have done within the ICT field.

The event was held at two venues, eKasi Labs in Garankuwa on the 23^rd of April and at ArcelorMittal Science Center in Sebokeng on the 25 ^th of April.
