A Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) is a vehicle in which key functions and systems are primarily controlled, managed, and optimized through software rather than traditional mechanical or hardware-based methods. SDV refer to a modern automotive technology approach where the functionalities of a vehicle are controlled and optimized through software rather than traditional hardware systems. SDV is continuously enhancing the capabilities of automobiles through various advantages such as flexibility, scalability, and providing a customized experience.
And, SDV services refer to a suite of digital services and functionalities provided within an SDV. These services encompass various aspects of vehicle operations, maintenance, user interaction, and connectivity, all controlled and enhanced through software applications and updates. Overall, SDV services represent the transformation of vehicles into more intelligent, connected, and flexible systems through the power of software, enhancing both the driving experience and the operational capabilities of modern autonomous vehicles.
Traditional vehicle gateway platform (VGP) is a system within a vehicle that facilitates communication between various electronic control units (ECUs) and external networks. It acts as a central hub for data exchange and connectivity within the vehicle's network and to external systems such as cloud services. And SDV is a vehicle whose functionalities and features are primarily controlled and defined by software. This approach allows for continuous updates and enhancements through software, enabling the vehicle to evolve over time.
Therefore, the ITU-T’s VGP enables the SDV by providing the necessary communication and data management. Without a robust gateway platform, the SDV would not be able to function effectively, as it relies heavily on continuous data exchange and software updates. The efficiency and capabilities of the VGP directly impact the performance of the SDV. The ITU-T’s vehicle gateway platform ensures data transmission capabilities and seamless updates, all of which are critical for the standardization of an SDV.
