Summary: Smart Pest and Disease Management (SPDM) is an approach to managing pests and diseases in agriculture or other settings that emphasizes the use of multiple techniques in a coordinated manner. The goal of SPDM is to minimize the damage caused by pests and diseases while minimizing risks to human health, the environment, and non-target organisms. Existing pesticide control systems based on Internet of Things can minimize the impact of chemicals on human health as well as reduce labour but have difficulties in achieving optimal pest and disease control. In order to efficiently provide SPDM service by enabling sophisticated data analytics and the widespread adoption of AI-powered surveillance systems, a large amount of data is needed to be involved. However, this data is difficult to collect because of lack of meaningful existing data and lack of common data formats. In order to efficiently manage and analyze vast amounts of data and to create various services based on the analyzed data, a standardized data model including data collection and management system is required. In particular, compatibility of data generated and consumed by heterogeneous devices must be guaranteed to ensure interoperability between devices of heterogeneous vendors. However, the SPDM data model currently used in the market is vendor-specific, and thus interoperability between devices is not guaranteed. In other words, data sharing and real-time data communication between heterogeneous devices is not supported. For data interoperability, this draft Recommendation defines requirements and reference model of data for SPDM service.
