Summary: Smart sustainable city is a new concept and model of global urban development. The smart city communication network provides support for different smart city systems (such as energy management, emergency management, etc.) and smart city platforms. There is currently no identified standards specification specifying requirements of smart city communication network. It is needed to study smart city communication network based on the comprehensive requirements of the smart cities. Based on the study of different application scenarios of smart city communication network system, this Recommendation introduces the concept of smart city communication network system (SCCNS), which provides a reliable and secure data transmission service between the SCP and Sensing and Data Collection Systems (SDCS). It then analyses the requirements of the SCCNS and specifies the functions of SCCNS. The study aims to enable enhanced support of the operation of diverse services and applications in smart cities and provide guidance for the design and deployment of smart city communication network by clarifying the requirements and functions of SCCNS.
