Summary:
|
Digital transformation is having substantial impacts on the way cities and communities are delivering public services and tackling recurring global challenges. Digital technologies include artificial intelligence, blockchain, 5G and among others. The adoption of each technology involves a complex set of requirements and challenges, all of which will have various degree of social, economic, environment impacts depending on the city and community. To understand this complexity, the global stakeholders need to create a shared vision of digital transformation that is tailored to the context of IoT, smart cities and communities. Unguided digital transformation threatens to amplify recurring global challenges such as climate change, as well as producing unintended consequences ranging from reinforcing digital silo to inequality. Therefore, there is a clear need to define digital transformation, taking into consideration the needs and priorities of city and community globally.
