Title:
IEEE Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks: Overview and Architecture. This IEEE standard provides an overview to the family of IEEE 802 Standards. It defines compliance with the family of IEEE 802 Standards; it describes the relationship of the IEEE 802 Standards to the Open Systems Interconnection Basic Reference Mode.

Justification for the specific reference:
This specification has been developed by the IEEE and is used by the ITU-T without change. G.8264 defines timing aspects in packet networks, with particular focus on synchronous Ethernet network and Ethernet based Synchronization Status Messages (SSM). IEEE 802 specifies the basic descriptions of the Ethernet networks considered as well as a reference model (RM) for protocol standards.
