Forum on Environmental Efficiency for Artificial Intelligence and other Emerging Technologies

Introduction
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), at the kind invitation of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology, Republic of Austria, organized the Forum on Environmental Efficiency for Artificial Intelligence and other Emerging Technologies on 11 December 2019 from 14:00 to 17:00 hours, in Vienna, Austria.

The following ITU events also took  place  at the same venue.


Objectives
The objective of the forum was to stimulate global dialogues on environmental efficiency for artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. It provided a platform to explore common challenges, share ideas and present and discuss use cases, requirements, applications, interfaces, protocols, architectures, etc.
 
The forum also provided an opportunity for governments, academia and industry to consider the state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and emerging technologies and their potential to bring environmental benefits and any potential human health and environmental safety concerns.

Target Audience
This forum was open to all. Participation was free of charge.

Session 1: Accelerating climate actions using frontier technologies
This session will explore the infinite possibilities that artificial intelligence and frontier technologies have to offer in fostering low carbon, climate resilient, sustainable growth and reaching the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

16:00 - 16:55​Session 2: Accessing the environmental benefits of emerging technologies 
This session will provide a platform to discuss the relationship between emerging technologies and environmental efficiency and also provide a platform to describe pathways towards a standardized framework to assess the environmental aspects of the adoption of emerging technologies.
