​Shinichiro Haruyama obtained a Bachelor's degree in physics at Tokyo University, Japan, a Masters degree in Electric Engineering 
and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, California, USA and a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, USA.
He worked for AT&T Bell Labs, (later Lucent Technology Bell Laboratories) in New Jersey, USA as researcher (1991-1996) and moved to Sony Computer Science Laboratories (1998-2002) in Tokyo, Japan.
He served as visiting professor in the Department of Information and Computer Science, Keio University prior to becoming a professor at The Graduate School of System Design and Management at Keio University.
