NBTC/ITU Workshop on Digital Radio Techologies  

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Thailand, are jointly organizing “NBTC/ITU Workshop on Digital Radio Technologies” to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1-3 March 2013. The Workshop is supported by WorldDMB, MCOT Public Co., LTd., the Government Public Relations Department, and the Royal Thai Army Radio and Television Station.

This Workshop is organized under the NBTC/ITU cooperation framework on "Roadmap Development for Digital Terrestrial Radio Broadcasting Roll Out in Thailand."

The Workshop is aimed at enhancing knowledge and experience in digital radio technologies and promoting the digital terrestrial radio broadcasting. Technology demonstration will be conducted in association with the Workshop. The demonstration including field tests is designed for participants to get a clear understanding of the technology and how it operates.

The Workshop is divided to two parts i.e. Part 1 for workshop sessions, and Part 2 for equipment demonstration and field tests. Participants please note that the workshop sessions will be held on Friday, 1st March 2013 and Sunday, 3rd March 2013 at the hotel venue. The demonstration and field tests sessions will be conducted at MCOT on Saturday, 2nd March 2013.

Completed registration and hotel reservation forms must be returned to the email address indicated in the forms as soon as possible but not later than 20th February 2013.

There is no registration fee for this Workshop. However, due to limited number of seats, registrations will be accepted on first-come-first-serve basis. No ITU fellowships are applicable for this Workshop. - Demonstration & Field Tests -
Venue: MCOT, Auditorium Room, 6th Fl.
The DAB+ demonstration is being conducted in association with the Workshop on Digital Radio Technologies which covers the DAB+ technology, operations and deployment aspects as well as a number of commercial and marketing aspects.

The demonstration is designed to allow the workshop participants to get a clear understanding of the technology and how it operates. The demonstration will include
  • A visit to the transmission site with demonstrations of equipment operation and a briefing by the equipment suppliers

    (a) Transmitter
    (b) Encoders / multiplexers / controllers
    (c) ETI Monitoring equipment
  • A field test where the broadcast signal will be received under a range of conditions from high power/close to the transmitter to edge of coverage and a number of different urban environments as can be found around the location of the transmitter.

    (a) The received signal will be logged and then the data will be analysed, that analysis will then be presented to the workshop attendees as a demonstration of a method of validating the performance an installed system.
    (b) If possible the coverage will be compared with a field strength prediction
