Organized by the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the Government of the
Kingdom of Tonga, the "ITU's Pacific ICT Ministerial Forum" concluded on
Friday 20 February 2009 with a successful outcome -
Communiqué.

The ITU's Pacific ICT Ministerial
Forum: "Connecting the Unconnected" was held from 19 to 20 February 2009 and was preceded by the
"Senior Officers Meeting for the Pacific ICT Ministerial Forum"
which was held from 17 to 18 February 2009 at the same venue.
The Forum was a platform for all ITU
Member States in the Pacific as well as 17 Partners ranging from UN-ESCAP,
Pacific Island Forum Secretariat (PIFS), sub-regional and regional
organisations, funding agencies, national security agencies, private
industries from various regions, NGOs to academic players through
public-private partnership. The Forum was attended by 117
participants including 2 Prime Ministers, 11 Ministers, senior officers,
high-ranking representatives, delegates, and secretariat of the Forum.
Moreover, ITU has inaugurated, signed
or announced various partnership initiatives during the Forum with
numerous partners. On 19 February 2009 during his
opening remarks, Mr. Sami Al-Basheer Al-Morshid, the Director of ITU
Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), made Announcements on partnerships between ITU and its partners
