The Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) organized for the first time the girls in ICT day. The invitation was sent out to all schoolchildren of the 7th and 8th class in Biel.
15 French- and 12 German-speaking girls enjoyed an interesting day on our main premises in Biel.
Ms Prof. Altwegg explained the space mission of spacecraft Rosetta with the landing on the comet Tschuri. With a simple wording, she was able to explain a technical very complex mission. In addition, three short animated cartoons amused the kids very much.
The mathematician Ms. Dr. Archinard showed the French girls her diplomatic mission to protect the space for illegal use further development for manned and unmanned space missions.
Our informatics and mediamatic learners spoke about their experiences of their apprenticeship.
After a more theoretical part, we offered the girls to explore the ICT environment in three different workshops.
They could learn how to develop a simple APP and to load it on their mobile phones, or how to program two small robotics, playing with a ball or to cut and compose a short film taken with their smartphones.
A highlight of the day was certainly the fine crepes served for lunch.
At the end, we announced a contest with an iPad mini as first price. We gave them the task to produce a short film showing their ICT world. The award ceremony will take place by mid of July.
