Physical (on-site) and Virtual (remote) participation

The accelerating impacts of climate change, combined with rapid digital transformation, are reshaping how societies anticipate, respond to, and recover from environmental challenges. Digital technologies—including artificial intelligence, connectivity infrastructure, and data-driven systems—are increasingly central to strengthening climate mitigation and resilience across sectors, from early warning systems and climate monitoring to resilient infrastructure and risk-informed decision-making.

At the same time, resilience-building is becoming a central priority within global climate and development agendas. As countries face growing exposure to climate risks, there is an urgent need to ensure that digital transformation strategies explicitly support adaptation and resilience, while remaining inclusive and sustainable.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) has long emphasized the transformative potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for sustainable development. In this context, the WSIS Forum 2026 provides a critical platform to assess how digitalization can be harnessed to build more climate-resilient societies.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), through its Green Digital Action (GDA) initiative, is actively advancing a global agenda to align digital innovation with climate objectives. As the GDA evolves, there is increasing focus on translating ambition into action—supporting countries and stakeholders in deploying digital solutions that enhance resilience while minimizing environmental impacts.

This high-level roundtable will bring together government representatives, United Nations leaders, and innovators to explore how the green digital action agenda is evolving in response to resilience needs, and how collective efforts can accelerate the transition towards a digital climate-resilient future.

Objectives

The session will provide a strategic platform to:
