This 45-minute interactive workshop, organized jointly by UNITAR and WSIS, as part of the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, is designed to introduce participants to the World Summit on the Information Society process. The session will cover the creation of WSIS, its unique multistakeholder approach, the key action lines, and the future outlook as well as key events to follow during the Forum.

Tailored specifically for youth and cross-sectoral stakeholders, the session will feature a presentation by a WSIS expert, complemented by engaging discussions and interactive exercises. Participants will deepen their understanding of global digital cooperation and explore opportunities for active involvement in WSIS and broader digital development initiatives.

In close collaboration with the WSIS team, UNITAR will deliver a certificate of participation to participants who attend the session.

Ms. Ruth Sidabutar
Ms. Ruth Sidabutar Project Officer International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Moderator

Ruth Sidabutar is a Project Officer at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialised agency for digital technologies. She leads the facilitation and coordination of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process and its alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as with other digital global governance processes. She has dedicated her career in the field of international cooperation, which spans in international organisations, regional organisations, and non-governmental organisations. Before joining ITU, she served as a Political Officer at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia. She holds a Master’s degree in Cooperation and Development and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations (International Development).

Ms. Manon Balcaen Project Coordinator United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Moderator

Manon Balcaen is a Project Coordinator with the Multilateral Diplomacy Programme at UNITAR, where she also serves as Gender Focal Point. She holds a Master’s degree in International Business and Diplomacy from ESCP Business School.
With experience spanning Europe and Latin America, Manon specializes in emerging economies, capacity building, stakeholder engagement and international cooperation
