Navigating the global security landscape of the UN family and its partners

The workshop will address existing and planned global and regional initiatives across the UN family as well as in Oman and the Gulf States. Speakers will also address the high value of cyber security international cooperation, shared best practices and the posture and landscape for cyber security in 2030.

Tima Soni and colleagues will address delivering information security services to more than a dozen UN Agencies. They provide cyber security oversight and governance to meet the needs of the UN's cyber security strategic goals concerning growing cyber threats. Solutions in support of these UN Agencies include a variety of information security initiatives such as incident response, security road maps, information security awareness programs, etc.

As many of the partner organizations are on the forefront of delivering the Sustainable Development Goals, Tima and her team have key roles and diverse experience in supporting the SDGs. ICC also runs a threat intelligence network community of practice for security concerns among six UN Agencies. This network helps to strengthen relationships within the cyber community at large on behalf of United Nations organizations and to foster a reputation for excellence. ICC is thus uniquely positioned to quickly disseminate cyber threat alerts and other critical information to organizations across the world. ICC was a CSO50 information security award winner.

Eng. Badar Ali Al-Salehi will discuss his cyber security work at the e-Oman national initiative and the Regional Cyber Security Center of ITU as well as the Islamic Cooperation Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT). He will discuss Oman’s cyber security best practices from the aspects of organizational, legal & regulation, technical, capacity building and international cooperation. He will also address Oman’s contribution to the regional and international efforts carried out by the ITU Regional Cyber Security Centre in Oman in its mission to promote and enhance cyber security. These efforts have led to Oman's being ranked first in the Arab world and 4th globally in the Global Cyber Security index GCI.

The speakers will address the unique perspectives and challenges faced when working for many different types of Agencies around the globe. Also discussed will be how they share knowledge and best practices on identified common weaknesses, strengths, threats and risks affecting the Agencies they support.

This session links to a number of WSIS Action Lines from information and communications infrastructure (C2), access to information and knowledge (C3), building confidence and security in the use of ICTs (C5), enabling environment (C6), international and regional cooperation (C11) as well as all e-environments (e-health, e-learning, e-science, e-agriculture, etc.).
