| Title | Establishment of an African Digital Transformation Center (ATDC) in South Africa | |
| Description |
Following the Digital Innovation Profile pre-assessment done in collaboration with ITU, the Republic of South Africa represented by the Department of Telecommunication and Postal Services (DTPS) has sought ITU’s assistance to undertake the development of an African Digital Transformation Center (the “Center”), and develop key enablers to establish the Center in collaboration with national stakeholders and international stakeholders. These key enablers will serve to catalyze and accelerate digital transformation opportunities towards the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) for South Africa, while building capacity of national stakeholders and enhance collaboration with international partners. | Achievements |
At closure, the project had successfully established the strategic, operational, and governance foundations for the African Digital Transformation Center. A major milestone was the realignment of the Center’s vision and strategic pillars in consultation with the new national counterparts. The Center’s mission, value proposition, governance system, roadmap, and design document were finalized with 100% achievement across all foundational deliverables. The project completed the Digital Innovation Profile, produced communication packages, secured initial membership commitments, and finalized flagship initiative designs. Human resources, premises allocation, and infrastructure setup had been advanced to the levels required for eventual operational readiness. Training activities, stakeholder workshops, and capability-building actions were initiated and partially delivered, laying the groundwork for a smooth transition into full national ownership. The project also strengthened continental engagement through participation in regional innovation events and foresight studies. Despite delays linked to administrative changes in the national leadership, the project maintained progress through proactive engagement. By closure, the Center was positioned for launch, with core institutional structures, documentation, and service frameworks fully prepared. |
