Summary:
|
Recommendation ITU-T L.105/L.87 describes the characteristics, construction and test methods of optical fibre cables for drop applications. Optical fibre drop cables are used to connect customer to optical access networks. The network interface device (NID) may be located either outdoors or indoors, depending on the access network configuration. When the NID is located indoors, optical drop cables can be exposed to both outdoor and indoor environments as they transition from outside to inside. In this case the optical drop cable should be designed for both environments.
This Recommendation also describes the characteristics that a cable requires for an optical fibre to perform appropriately in different applications. A method is described for determining if the cable has the required characteristics to support the required conditions where it is installed. The required conditions may differ according to the installation environment. Therefore, detailed test conditions of experiments should be agreed between a user and a supplier on the basis of the environment in which a cable is to be used
