Information-centric networking (ICN) introduces new features useful to meet the performance targets of networks beyond IMT-2020 [ITU-T Y.3033]. ITU-T Y.3075 defined the framework and capabilities of ICN routing and forwarding with control plane and data plane separated in IMT-2020. In this architecture, the data plane is guided by the control plane to process the data packet based on the specific routing algorithm or other rules [ITU-T Y.3075].
In the data plane, how to support the instant re-addressing and re-routing of data packets is a key issue. The instant re-addressing and re-routing is also essential to support mobility and multi-homing scenarios in ICN [ITU-T Y.3075].
This Recommendation specifies the detailed requirements and describes the functional framework of data plane in networks beyond IMT-2020 based on the routing and forwarding in the control and data plane separated ICN architecture frameworks specified in [ITU-T Y.3075] and [ITU-T Y. 3083]. The framework is designed to meet the requirements of high-performance processing of ICN data packet headers, instant re-addressing and re-routing of ICN data packets.
