机载宽带通信可为机舱乘客数据传输提供数据服务。支持机载宽带通信以促进IMT-2020及之后网络的固定、移动和卫星融合（FMSC），可以保障飞机从起飞到着陆的网络连接。ITU-T Y.3211建议书规定了支持机载宽带通信以促进IMT2020及之后网络的固定、移动和卫星融合的非无线部分的要求。
