Le déploiement à grande échelle de systèmes de surveillance des infrastructures d'énergie électrique basés sur l'Internet des objets (IoT-EPIMS) a permis d'améliorer l'intelligence et la numérisation des systèmes d'énergie. Toutefois, les systèmes n'étant pas égaux par nature, leur pertinence et leur qualité de fonctionnement varient considérablement lors de la surveillance d'un événement spécifique, ce qui rend plus difficile l'application efficace du système de surveillance. La production de métadonnées d'un système de surveillance des infrastructures d'énergie électrique basé sur l'Internet des objets peut améliorer de manière significative les capacités de gestion des données et d'application, et rendre les services énergétiques plus transparents, plus intelligents et plus avancés dans les villes intelligentes.
