تعرض هذه التوصية المراجعة متطلبات الأداء الصوتي لهواتف النطاق الواسع للصوت (kHz 7) ذات المهتفة الرقمية. وترد في الملحق A طرق الاختبار المتصلة بذلك من أجل التحقق من الأداء الصوتي على النطاق الواسع.
وترد في هذه التوصية المتطلبات وطرق الاختبار الخاصة بالمعلمات الأساسية للإرسال الصوتي التي تؤثر على الصوت على النطاق الواسع، بما في ذلك السويات واستجابة التردد والضوضاء والتشوه والإشارات الهامشية والنغمة الجانبية ومسير الصدى ومهلة التأخير. ويعتبر الصوت على النطاق الواسع خروجاً مهماً عن المهاتفة التقليدية حيث إنه يوفر جودة أفضل بكثير.
والمراجعة الرئيسية التي أدخلت في هذه الصيغة من التوصية هي اعتماد خوارزمية لقياس درجة ارتفاع الصوت على النطاق الواسع، كما ترد في ملحق التوصية G/P.79.
