تصف التوصية ITU-T H.770 آليات لاكتشاف مورد الخدمة واكتشاف الخدمة والاختيار بالنسبة لخدمات تلفزيون بروتوكول الإنترنت. وتمكن هذه الآليات الأجهزة المطرافية لتلفزيون بروتوكول الإنترنت من تزويد المستعملين النهائيين بالأساليب الفعالة لاستعمال خدمات تلفزيون بروتوكول الإنترنت. ومن بين الأنواع المتوقعة لخدمات تلفزيون بروتوكول الإنترنت التي تستعمل معلومات اكتشاف خدمة التلفزيون الخطي والفيديو حسب الطلب وما إلى ذلك. وتعرف هذه التوصية عناصر ونعوت البيانات الشرحية لاكتشاف الخدمة التي توفر معلومات بخصوص موردي الخدمات والمحتويات/الخدمات وبروتوكولات توصيلها تغطي كلاً من آليات نقل البث الأحادي والبث المتعدد. ويضيف التعديل (2009/11) 1 نصوصاً وصفية بخصوص اكتشاف مورد الخدمة إلى التذييل I وتصوب أخطاء تم اكتشافها في التذييل II ويضيف التعديل (2010/09) 2 على التوصية ITU-T H.770 التذييل الجديد V بشأن معلومات من أجل اكتشاف الخدمة باستعمال المعيار TR-069 لمنتدى النطاق العريض ويدخل تغييرات على المتن الرئيسي للتوصية بخصوص استعماله.
