Advancing universal and meaningful connectivity (UMC) is one of the strategic objectives of the ITU for the 2024-2027 period. Measuring progress towards UMC is therefore essential, as recognized by the Global Digital Compact and the G20. National statistical offices and regulatory authorities play a key role in collecting and analyzing ICT data, which is vital for informed policy-making and understanding ICT’s socio-economic impact. However, many authorities, especially in developing countries, struggle with limited technical expertise.

To address this gap, the ITU’s “Promoting and Measuring Universal and Meaningful Connectivity” project, financed by the European Union, aims to strengthen statistical capacity through workshops and online webinars. The ICT Data and Analytics Division (IDA), which is implementing this project, plans to conduct four webinars, providing an opportunity to showcase best practices, address practical questions, and engage participants in exercises that reinforce key learning objectives. These four webinars described below focus on best practices, address practical challenges, and engage participants in reinforcing key concepts. The target audience includes staff from national statistical offices and telecommunication authorities who collect or would like to collect ICT statistics.

This technical webinar was addressed to compilers of ICT service price statistics and aimed at improving the quality of ICT price data (ICT Price Baskets – IPB) collected by the ITU member states. During this webinar, participants were provided with detailed explanations on processes based on the approved methodology as well as with sample datasets to practice the calculations.
