As a means of bringing global attention to this year's theme: “Women and Girls in ICT”, ITU presented the annual World Telecommunication and Information Society Award to eminent personalities in recognition of their leadership and dedication in promoting both the involvement of women in the ICT field, and in leveraging the catalytic role ICTs can play in creating far-reaching opportunities for women and girls by eliminating gender disparities and empowering them to meet their goals and aspirations.
