ITU Secretary-General Dr Touré meets with the Emir of Qatar, H.H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

The highlight of Dr Hamadoun Touré’s recent visit to Qatar was the top-level meeting with the Emir H. H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, where it was agreed to set up a joint fund between ITU and Qatar to support the projects proposed as a priority at the top-level ITU Connect Arab Summit in Doha, held on 6 March 2012.
While in Doha, Dr Touré also took time to discuss ICT development plans with industry leaders including H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani, Chairman of Qtel; Mohammed Al Mannai , CEO of QNBN; Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar satellite company.
During his visit Dr Touré was also honoured to participate as a high-level panelist at the first-ever Ministerial Conference of the Universal Postal Union, where he noted the close ties and almost 150-year history of professional cooperation between the two organizations. "We must recognize the critical importance of interconnection and convergence between addresses’ electronic and physical dimensions, and then ensure that all of the world’s people are connected, whatever the means of communication,"said Dr Touré.
