ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun Touré  made a high-level visit to Egypt to meet with top members of the new government, including H.E. Prime Minister Dr Kamal El Ganzouri, and ICT Minister Dr Mohamed Salem.

Dr Touré discussed the extraordinary ICT uptake in the Arab region over the past decade. Region-wide, mobile penetration has reached almost 90%, and Internet penetration 24%. He also praised Egypt for its commitment to ICTs as a platform for economic growth and social development.

Egypt has been a great innovator in ICT access, particularly in the area of Internet. Over 30% of Egyptian households now have an Internet-connected computer.
