10-11 April 2011, Nouméa, New Caledonia
It was a great pleasure to be able to participate in a number of important events during my mission to Nouméa. These included:
- The closing of the inaugural Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which attracted over 70 delegates;
- The Special ICT Ministerial Forum, which included official representation from France and 15 Pacific Island Countries and Territories responsible for ICTs; and
- The opening of the Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association (PITA) Annual General Meeting.
While in Nouméa, Dr Jimmie Rodgers, Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and I also signed an agreement to further strengthen and enhance cooperation between ITU and the SPC, to facilitate telecommunication/ICT development programmes in the Pacific.
