It was a great pleasure to launch the Broadband Commission for Digital Development with UNESCO at the beginning of the WSIS Forum 2010. We have succeeded in bringing basic access to ICTs within reach of almost all the world's people, but now we need to bring affordable access to the full wealth of the knowledge society -- and that means broadband.
I am confident that the Commission will do an excellent job over the coming months of defining strategies and recommendations for broadband development and I look forward to presenting the final report to the UN MDG Summit in September.
