A one-day workshop on “Environmentally Sound Management of E-waste”, jointly organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and CITEL will take place in Mendoza, Argentina on 9 October 2013.  The first meeting of the ITU-T Study Group 5 Regional Group for the Americas (SG5 RG-AMR) will take place on 9 October from 16.30 to 18.30 hours immediately after the workshop.  In addition, a Joint CITEL/ISOC/ITU Seminar on "Combating SPAM" will also take place on 7 October 2013 in Mendoza, Argentina.

Objectives

The workshop will provide an overview of best practices on policies, regulations and international standards for improving e-waste management. It will discuss how WEEE has a negative impact on the environment and human health, but can also provide opportunities for green economic growth and sustainable development by turning an e-challenge into an e-opportunity. The workshop will also provide a platform to discuss possible next steps, new cooperative options, business plans and other ways to deal with this problem.

Target Audience

The workshop will bring together leading specialists in the field, from top policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and others.
