Segment 1 (Part I: Background and general perspectives of key stakeholders):
 
Segment 1 will allow participants to gain a better understanding of the complexity of the current debates relative to standard essential patent litigation, to listen to the views of key stakeholders on this issue, and to consider possible actions that could be taken by the different groups of stakeholders with a view to possibly clarifying the RAND licensing commitment or otherwise reducing the tensions between the standard, patent and competition law systems.

Segment 2: World Café @ ITU Patent Round Table

Facilitator: Ms Saba Imru, ITU [ Biography ]

Rapporteurs: Mr. Robert Barr, University of California [ Biography ] and Mr. Knut Blind, Rotterdam School of Management [ Biography ]

Segment 2 will be conducted as a World Café, an effective collaborative conversation methodology that ensures the active involvement of each and every participant in a generative discussion around the key questions of the Roundtable. The shared dialogue facilitates intensive peer exchanges and is an excellent means to express innovative ideas, reveal emergent trends and consolidate an open network of world-class experts in the field.

The goal of this Segment is to allow participants to actively exchange ideas and better understand each other’s perspectives.  This Segment will be used to generate solutions that will be reviewed and discussed during Segment 3.
