MWESIGWA Patrick

Eng Patrick Mwesigwa holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, Kampala and Masters in Operational Telecommunications from Coventry University, UK. Mr Mwesigwa has undertaken a number of postgraduate courses related to telecommunications and regulation over the years. He is a Member of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE).

He worked with Uganda Posts and Telecommunications Corporation and later Uganda Telecom for a period of 20 years starting as a Pupil Engineer and was later promoted through the ranks to the post of Chief of planning. During his service with Uganda Telecom he was involved in planning, construction and maintenance of transmission and switching systems around the country.

Eng Mwesigwa joined Uganda Communications Commission as a Technical Manager in 2001 after having worked with Uganda telecom for a period of over 20 years starting as a Executive Engineer and rose through the ranks to the position of Chief of Planning. In January 2008, Mr Mwesigwa was appointed Director/Technology and Licensing and he served as Acting Executive Director, Uganda Communications Commission from January-December  2010  following the end of the contract for the then Executive Director. Mr Mwesigwa is currently Director/Technology, Networks & Services.

Mr Mwesigwa holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, Kampala and an MSC in Operational Telecommunications from Coventry University, UK and has undertaken various professional courses in engineering and ICT.

Mr Mwesigwa was elected chairperson of East African Communication Organisations (EACO) at its Congress that was held in Kampala, Uganda in 2010. At the World Telecommunication Development Assembly (WTSA-08) that was held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2008, Mr Mwesigwa was elected as Vice-Chairman of ITU Study Group 17 that deals with telecom security on which he represents the African Region. He was re-elected SG 17 Vice-chairman for a second term at WTSA-12 held in Dubai in 2012.

He has participated and presented at a number of regional and international fora on telecommunications and ICT.
