Contributing to the creation of enabling regulatory and market environments, the efficient development technologies and networks, effective spectrum management and transition to digital broadcasting, and new ICT applications, promoting Digital Inclusion of people with specific needs, undertaking capacity building activities, strengthening cybersecurity, helping develop emergency telecommunication networks and boosting ICT’s input to climate change monitoring and mitigation, and implementing projects in all these areas. All this work is supported by the production of authoritative statistics and indicators.
ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau is also promoting two important initiatives, the m-Powering Development and the Smart Sustainable Development Model.



The Telecommunication Development Advisory Group, known by the acronym TDAG, reviews priorities, strategies and financial matters of the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector. It meets between the World Development Conferences (WTDC) to advise the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) on the implementation of the WTDC Action Plan, including issues relating to the budget and the operational plan of the Sector. TDAG meets every year.
The 19th meeting of the TDAG took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 29 September to 1 October 2014.


The ITU’s regions presence extends across Africa, the Americas, the Arab states, Asia and the Pacific as well as Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.​
