Closing Remarks by Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap, Minister of Information and Communication Technology. Royal Thai Government

Honourable Leaders,

Ministers,

Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union,

Distinguished Delegates,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

 

 

We have come to the end of the Connect Asia-Pacific Summit.

Today, Leaders and Head of Delegations from Asia-Pacific region have come together to share views and collectively affirm commitment on building our region an inclusive and development-centred as well as creative region by the year 2020. Leaders endorsed the vision on Asia-Pacific 2020: Smartly DIGITAL.

We had an opportunity to hear from honourable guests at High-Level Panel on Envisioning Asia-Pacific 2020 on the digital challenges and opportunities in the region including issues of stake, possible outcomes and strategies.

We have witnessed an announcement of partnerships of a number of projects between countries in the region and other stakeholders. While a number of projects are awaiting for partners.

In the Ministerial Roundtable, Ministers had shared their views on the priority areas for Asia-Pacific region to promote measures on ICT developments to achieve the Leaders' Vision and endorsed the Summit Communiqué.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I would like to take this opportunity to express our admiration to the Leaders and Heads of Delegations from the Asia-Pacific region for their vision of "Asia-Pacific 2020: Smartly DIGITAL".

I would like to thank all stakeholders including governments, public and private sectors, civil society, UN agencies, regional and international organizations, and development and funding agencies for joining hands in this Connect Asia-Pacific Summit.

Our deep appreciation goes to the co-organiser - the International Telecommunication Union or ITU - its all staff from the Head Quarters in Geneva and from the Regional Office in Bangkok, and Dr. Hamadoun Touré, the ITU Secretary-General in particular, for his initiative of the Connect the World Series.

I am also grateful and to our supporters namely: IMPACT, TCEB, NBTC, etc. and more importantly officials of the Royal Thai Government especially those of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Prime Minister, Royal Thai Police, and many others whom I cannot name them all. They have worked very hard, days and nights for many months only to ensure the successful Summit, and apparently we all already saw their great achievements.

Most of all, our deep gratitude is to all Excellencies, distinguished delegates, participants, ladies and gentlemen here whom without you, this Connect Asia-Pacific Summit would not happen and would not be such this successful.

I wish you the best of time in Bangkok and the safe journey home for all. For those who will participate in the Telecom World from tomorrow to 22 November, I look forward to seeing you again.
