Statement of ABU & AIBD

Distinguished guests, delegates of the ITU Member Countries, Affiliates, partners, ladies and gentlemen!

On behalf of AIBD, I wish to thank ITU & MICT for giving opportunity to deliver the message at the "Connect Asia-Pacific Summit" in Bangkok.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The achievement of AIBD over the past years in implementing its vision, mission and objectives has been outstanding. The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), established in 1977 under the auspices of UNESCO, is a unique regional inter-governmental organisation servicing countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of electronic media development.

The broadcasting environment is going through amazing changes due to the development of digital technology. The major challenge today for broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region is the digital switch over (DSO). Almost all the broadcasting organisations have forecast their migration plan and by 2020 most of them will be operating on digital transmission.

The biggest challenge for the broadcast industry is to develop human resources in new media and new technologies. Hence capacity building is one of the important tasks. AIBD is mandated to assist human resource development in the electronics media. Therefore for this purpose we request the delegates of this forum on "Connect Asia-Pacific Summit" to join hands with AIBD by extending support for developing human resources in digital technology.

We wish to thank the organisers ITU & MICT for giving us the opportunity to deliver our views at this forum and look forward to the invaluable support to AIBD.
