Cybercafé

PCs with multilingual keyboard support and network printers will be available at the cybercafé.

Connections to printers can be done:

  • Via the network (wired/wireless). Printers names will be marked on them;
  • As email attachment and send to the desired printer email address marked on the printer. e.g. hpdelm1@eprint.itu.int;
  • Via USB cable.

A local service desk will provide technical support to the delegates.

Wireless

  • Use IEEE 802.11n on 5 GHz whenever possible, performance is only guaranteed on 5 GHz band.
  • IEEE 802.11a/n on both 2.4 and 5.2 GHz are supported throughout the venue.
  • IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g are not supported in meeting rooms A, B and C. IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g are supported only in coffee break area.
  • The latest IEEE 802.11ac is not supported.
  • SSID - please check the signage at the event venue.
  • Open the Internet browser to access any website; you will be redirected to the logon page. Enter the username and password you received with your Event badge.

Wireless LAN connectivity.

Notes on Wireless LAN connectivity

To make the most efficient use of network resources, we strongly recommend the following:

1. Good wireless performance can only be guaranteed for devices that support 802.11a and 802.11n on the 5.2 GHz band.

2. Ensure that your user account has administrative privileges. Should you require help onsite, the ITU Service Desk staff will only be able to help you if you have administrative rights on your laptop.

3. You are kindly requested to test your wireless connection before the opening session.

4. Download the Conference documents before entering the meeting room.

5. Refrain from using peer-to-peer connections.

Wireless LAN configuration parameters

1. Most wireless cards are able to search for the radio channel automatically. If your card does not support this function, try channels 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, or 64 for 802.11a and channels 1, 6 or 11 for 802.11b/g. You may have to change to another channel if you move to another part of the building.

2. Set Operation mode to "Infrastructure" (not Ad-Hoc or peer-to-peer). The Ad-Hoc mode creates a lot of confusion not only for you but also for other participants.

Notes on using wireless connections

1. Wireless network connections are good for web browsing but fair for FTP downloads.

2. Wireless cards can drain considerable power from your laptop - so recharge your laptop frequently.

Buying wireless cards or laptops with built-in wireless support

When buying a laptop or a wireless card, please ensure they are "Wi-Fi compatible 802.11abgn" Good wireless performance can only be guaranteed for devicesthat support 802.11a and 802.11n on the 5.2 GHz band. Please check that your card's model number is mentioned at http://www.wi-fi.com.

Note that cards labeled 802.11bgn do not support 5.2 GHz. Look for the card with one of the following certificates:

Useful reminders for Laptops

Network settings

Enable DHCP so that your laptop will obtain the IP address and other network parameters automatically.

Security

Please be aware that delegate network communication can be intercepted, end-to-end encryption is recommended for confidentiality.

If you are concerned about computer security, please use personal firewall software.

Firewall software configurations may prevent access to local resources (e.g. printers).

All wireless users must have a good anti-virus program that has up-to-date virus database. Viruses can easily spread in the wireless network.

Outgoing e-mail

Set up your outgoing (SMTP) server to smtp.itu.int.

Web-proxy

The "Tools", "Internet Options", "Connection", "LAN settings" should be set to "automatically detect settings".

Socks

Disable any SOCKS configurations.

Please note that the installation and use of non-ITU wireless access points without prior authorization from the ITU/IS Department is prohibited.

Webcast

Selected sessions will be webcast live and archives will be made available after the end of each session at:
