[2025-2028] : [SG5] : [Q6/5]

[Declared patent(s)]  - [Associated work]

Work item: L.1396 (ex L.MCI_MIM)
Subject/title: Monitoring and Control Interface for Infrastructure Equipment (Power, Cooling and Building Environment Systems used in Telecommunication Networks) - ICT equipment power, energy and environmental parameters monitoring information model
Status: Consented on 2025-06-12 [Issued from previous study period]
Approval process: AAP
Type of work item: Recommendation
Version: New
Equivalent number: L.MCI_MIM (Twin)
Timing: 2025 (Medium priority)
Liaison: ETSI TC EE / EE2, 3GPP SA5, NGMN
Supporting members: Huawei, Ericsson, Telecom Italia
Summary: The goal of the present document is to define the measurement of electrical power and energy consumption of ICT equipment as well as environmental parameters (temperature, hygrometry) in order to improve energy monitoring and to correlate the power consumption to equipment operation activity (telecom traffic, computation, etc.). It is also to define the transfer protocol of this measurement data from site to network operation centre. Understanding power consumption provides the opportunity to reduce energy consumption of equipment and/or the network. Granularity, measurement period and accuracies are defined to meet these targets. They may depend on equipment types and location in the different segments of a network (customer termination, access, core, data-center, etc.). In addition, these measurements can be used to improve engineering and operation including more accurate dimensioning of power systems, network evolution modelling and prevision, audit on field, etc.
Comment: Work item jointly developed with ETSI TC EE to become a technically aligned deliverable.
