ITU Regional Presence for Asia and the Pacific

Asia and the Pacific region classified in the ITU Regional Presence is currently responsible for 38 Member States composed of four sub-regions such as North-East Asia, South-East Asia, South Asia and the Pacific, which are diverse and dynamic in the telecommunications and ICT sector with challenges and opportunities alike.

To achieve the vision of ITU and the mandate of its Development Sector inter alia, it has been serving its Member States as well as Sector Members and Associates in Asia and the Pacific for affordable and sustainable access to telecommunications/ICT services and

applications, as critical enablers for the overall socio-economic and political development, through various development programmes, regional initiatives and projects based on public-private partnership as well as South-South and multi-stakeholders' cooperation.

It is composed of Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific hosted by the Government of Thailand at Bangkok since 27 November 1992, and Area Office for South-East Asia hosted by the Government of Indonesia at Jakarta since 27 November 1984.

Asia-Pacific Centre of Excellence (ASP CoE)

Asia-Pacific Centre of Excellence offers one of the best telecommunication/ICT training opportunities in the region through its five Nodes and their network of partners. The aim of this project is to build a self-dependent mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region that would impart the necessary skills and knowledge required in the dynamic telecommunication/ICT sector. The Nodes lead the design and implementation of a distinct training programme in consultation with ITU and offers face-to-face as well as on-line training seminars.
