NBTC-ITU Training Workshop on the Use of Telecommunication/ICTs for Disaster Management  

The the International Telecommunication Union and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), Thailand are organizing a training workshop on “the Use of Telecommunication/ICTs for Disaster Management” under the ITU/NBTC cooperation framework for training programme in 2012. This training will be held at Pullman Bangkok Hotel G Silom, Bangkok, from 20 to 23 November 2012.

This Training Workshop which is targeted at related Government Ministries, Telecommunication Regulatory Authorities, ITU Sector Members, Associates and Academia, and Non-Governmental Organizations, and aims to build skill on understanding the regulatory and technical aspects of communications and information management in emergencies. More importantly, it also aims at bringing together the main stakeholders active in the dissemination of ICTs and their use for disaster mitigation, and to serve as a forum in which they can map out concrete strategies and adopt practical measures aimed at giving ICTs a central role to play in disaster prevention and management, i.e. early warning, preparedness, relief and response.

This training will be conducted in English. Interested participants are kindly requested to complete online registration at http://www.nbtc-itu2012.org/disastermanagement/register no later than 12th November 2012.

Hotel reservations should be made directly with your chosen hotel using the hotel reservation form. For practical reasons, the number of participants for the training workshop will need to be limited to 70. Those participants requiring an entry visa to Thailand are requested to contact their local Embassy for information well in advance. More information is also available in the "Useful Information for Participants".

There is No training fee for this course as it is supported by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC). However, the participants should cover their own travel and accommodation expenses and arrangements. Participants are advised to bring with him/her a personal laptop computer.

The ITU is pleased to provide fellowships including daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and air tickets to Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Low-Income Countries (LICs) subject to availability of funds. Applicants requesting for fellowship are required to submit the fellowship request form duly signed by their Administration together with the online registration no later than 12 November 2012.
