Role
of Press OfficerThe Exhibitor's Press
Officer plays a central role in ensuring that the exhibiting organisation makes the most
of the significant PR opportunity created by being present at an ITU TELECOM
event.
An Exhibitor will wish to maximise its press
coverage and visibility whilst a journalist will wish to file interesting and topical
copy. Sometimes, these two agendas will map onto each other, sometimes not! We have
designed an infrastructure to support both agendas and that infrastructure is set out in
these pages. To make it a success, we count on your close collaboration and support.
The Primary Press Officer will act as the
communication channel between our Press Service and the Exhibitor represented.
Nomination ProcedureWe ask each Exhibitor to nominate one person to
act as Primary Press Officer. Please specify details as appropriate in the Designation
of Press Officer Form (M1). This form can be located in the Media Relations section of
the Event Manual which the Exhibitor Main Contact can access via our website.
Please ensure the Press Officer is nominated as
soon as possible - early nomination will mean good information flow from the outset - both
into your organisation about the event and importantly, to the attending media about your
organisation. For example, we will be distributing widely the list of Press Officers to
the international press to enable journalists to make early contact with Exhibitors.
If there is a change of Press Officer details,
please send us another form with the new information and indicate the name of the Press
Officer being replaced.
Secondary Press OfficersYou may only nominate a Secondary Press Officer as
backup, if your organisation has geographically decentralized operations for facilitating
their Press relations. Please specify details as appropriate in the Designation of
Press Officer Form.
If you wish Secondary Press Officers be added to
the list provided to the media, please note that although they will receive correspondence
from the Press Service, they will not be authorized to make any commitment on
behalf of the organisation. This responsibility rests entirely with the Primary Press
Officer.
Please note that the Secondary Press Officers do
not have the same privileges as the Primary Press Officers.
Use
of a PR AgencyYou may wish to
nominate a PR agency as your Press Officer. Please note that this must be instead of,
rather than in addition to, nominating a Press Officer from your organisation.
