Program Manager Digital City, City of Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Roland is from origin a cityplanner with a great fascination for digital and data. For the last years he has focused mainly on the impact of the digital transformation on the city and its citizens. He tries to answer questions like what a digital city is and how this relates to the ‘traditional’ social-physical city? And how does this impact the city’s challenges? What kind of role has the government in all of this? The first answers to these questions now are written down in the recent published vision ‘Rotterdam in transformation 1.0’ and have become concrete with the launch of the Open Urban Platform. In his current role of program manager for Rotterdam Citiverse he researches the Citiverse concept and to what extent this concept can help us better understand the impact of the digital transformation on the future of cities and its citizens. This should result in a new vision (2.0) by the end of 2027.
