Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL) and ITU Area Office​

The Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL), telecommunication regulatory body in Honduras in coordination with the ITU Area Office carried out for fifth consecutive time the celebration of Girls in ICT Day.  The event took place on April 28, 2016 in Hotel Clarion in Tegucigalpa.

The main purpose of the event was to encourage young female students of technical colleges to engage in technical careers in the University where they can enhance their skills acquired in secondary education.

CONATEL took the opportunity to involve 100 girls from 20 different technical colleges.

Among the special guests was the First Lady of Honduras, Mrs. Ana Garcia de Hernandez, representatives from National Congress and Ministry of Education.  As well as CODERISE a Colombian organization that aims to empower high-school students into tech innovation, private operators like TIGO and CLARO, Regional Organization like COMTELCA and private Universities like UNITEC, UNICAH, UPI (Universidad para Ingeniería), UTH and UJCV (Universidad Jose Cecilio del Valle).

The Programme included the Presentation via videoconference of an outstanding young girl from Honduras who lives in France as a researcher. She is an Engineer in mechatronics with master in Robotic, Miss Ana Lucia CRUZ.

Also, the participation of Miss Jessica MERCEDES, one of the founders of CODERISE in Colombia was present in the event with a power point presentation with the purpose to encourage young girls to get into the tech world.

The different universities had the opportunity to present technological project stands.  The winner was awarded a prize at the end of the event.

The girls had the opportunity to participate in a photography contest with image edition.  At the end the award was given to the first three places.
