Civil society roundtable (closed meeting)
WSIS Secretariat-ITU, and civil society organizations
Session 560
The Civil Society Roundtable brings together diverse civil society actors to reflect on their long‑standing and indispensable role within the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process and to chart a renewed vision for the next phase of global digital cooperation. Since the inception of WSIS, civil society has been a driving force in promoting human‑centric digital development, safeguarding rights, advancing transparency, and ensuring that marginalized voices are represented in global ICT decision‑making. The WSIS+20 Review reinforces this role, recognizing civil society as a critical partner in upholding human rights online, addressing digital inequalities, monitoring the ethical use of emerging technologies, and strengthening accountability across all WSIS Action Lines.
This session provides a platform for civil society leaders, youth advocates, grassroots organizations, and global networks to assess progress, identify persistent gaps, and articulate priorities for WSIS towards 2035. Discussions will explore how civil society can shape inclusive digital policies, contribute to multi‑stakeholder governance, and ensure that the digital transformation remains anchored in equity, safety, and human dignity. By convening this roundtable at a pivotal moment in the WSIS Process, the session aims to reaffirm civil society’s leadership as a guardian of rights, a catalyst for inclusion, and a co‑architect of a just and sustainable digital future.
