Transformational Learning for Sustainable Development: Lessons from the Global Competence Online Project

Fudan University, Shanghai China and University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Session 295

13:00–14:00 CEST (UTC+02:00), Thursday, 13 August 2020 Thematic Workshop

Transforming Teaching and Learning through ICT aided Project Based Learning (PBL)

For decades, learning in schools and classrooms had been delivered by teachers passing on worthwhile contents to learners using physical contacts. Learners on the other hand, would passively assimilate learning and in very few cases would 'think outside the box' to find solutions to problems given by either the teacher or encountered in the course of the learning process. In this model, learning is usually passive and requires less critical thinking which is a necessary skill for 21st-century learners to function effectively in our rapidly changing society.

Consequently, research has demonstrated that learning models promoting Transformational Learning Outcomes involving problem-solving skills and reflective thinking, better equips learners with skills needed to effectively integrate and thrive in our rapidly evolving society.

With the foregoing in mind, this workshop will host seasoned and innovative educators who will draw from their wealth of experiences to discuss how learners, schools and educational institutions can experience and propagate transformations needed in the global education Using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Sustainable development goal four (SDG4).
