A Briefing on the current policy development process at ICANN to ensure that DNS operators can be complaint with the EU GDPR while maintaining access for legitimate purposes to registarnt information.

This Session, organised by the ICANN Cross Community Working Group (CCWG) on Internet Governance, will be in the form of a briefing on the current Expedited Policy Development Process (EPDP) which the ICANN Community is working on to ensure that Registries and Registrars are compliant with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into force in May 2018.

 

The briefing will cover the work of the EPDP to finalise a specification concerning personal information collected and published on the WHOIS database, the work of the Technical Study Group (TSG), https://www.icann.org/tsg and the forthcoming work on defining appropriate access arrangement to personal data of registrants of domain names.

 

The briefing will be given by Olivier Crepin-Leblond (Chair of the CCWG IG) and will include contributions from Kurt Pritz (the former Chair of the EPDP) and Keith Drazek, the Chair of the Council of the Generic Name Supporting Organisation (GNSO) who leads the EPDP”.
