Session 213

09:00–10:45, Friday, 12 April 2019 Room K2, ITU Montbrillant Thematic Workshop

As human beings are in pursuit of economic development, pollution caused in the process not only encroaches the habitat of wild animals, but also jeopardize human health. In some areas of low-income countries, people are suffering from various pollutions: infectious diseases in Africa, respiratory issues and water pollution in South-East Asia, according to UNEP. Especially, the single-use plastic products, are being produced and consumed in a large scale. Those 300-million-tonnes plastic wastes impose great challenges for the environment to accommodate and degrade. As the ICT advanced, ICT has played the role of the agency in improving the awareness of the public, providing the platform and mechanism for plastic recycling. The panel “ICT for Reducing Pollution: Pressure from Garbage” will therefore explore:
·     the current barriers to solve alleviate the pressure,
·     ICT programs that recycle and make the best of the plastic wastes,
·     and vision toward the future.
