Bahrain to welcome top United Nations ICT policy event

Premier of Bahrain set to open Global Symposium for Regulators, and
kick off debate on ‘
capitalizing on the potential of the digital world’

Geneva, 13 May, 2014 – Journalists are encouraged to submit their request for media accreditation for ITU’s annual Global Symposium for Regulators, the world’s pre-eminent gathering of the global ICT regulatory and policy-making community, which will be held at the Gulf Hotel, Manama, Bahrain, from 3-5 June.

Hosted by Government of Bahrain under the patronage of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, this key United Nations conference is expected to attract around 700 policy experts from around the world to discuss the key trends reshaping the global information and communication technology (ICT) industry. It will be chaired by Dr Mohammed Al Amer, Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Bahrain.​​

Highlights include:

  • the challenges and opportunities of ‘big data’
  • why competition in ICT markets matters
  • new trends in spectrum licensing
  • new financing and business models
  • consumer empowerment

The morning session on Tuesday 3 June is open to media, culminating in a press conference at the end of the morning’s programme. A number of interesting pre-event sessions on 2 June are also planned, which are also accessible to media.

Formal accreditation prior to the event is essential to gain access to the venue. Please note that accreditation will close on Wednesday 28 May and that there will be no accreditation onsite.
