ITU Workshop on Emergency Broadcasting, 21 November
Report highlights role of radio and TV in transmitting critical information
Geneva, 11 November 2013 – ITU
will hold a Workshop on 21 November 2013 on Emergency Broadcasting and
launch a Report on the critical role played by terrestrial radio and television
broadcasting in the rapid dissemination of emergency information.
As the number of natural disasters and other large-scale emergency situations
around the world (such as tornadoes, hurricanes, tropical storms, floods,
snowstorms, earthquakes, tsunamis) are on the rise, it is absolutely essential
that the public is provided necessary information quickly, comprehensively and
accurately. Terrestrial television and radio broadcasters provide the fastest,
reliable and most effective means of delivering information in these critical
situations.
