ITU Telecom World 2013 presents agenda at opening press conference
Industry leaders to debate “Embracing Change in a Digital World”
Bangkok, 18 November 2013 – The opening press conference for
ITU Telecom World 2013, the leading platform for debate, networking and
knowledge-sharing in the global information and communication technology (ICT)
community, is being held today in Bangkok, Thailand.
Introducing the event will be Dr Hamadoun I. Touré, Secretary-General of the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the event organizer; Group Captain
Anudith Nakornthap, Minister of Information and Communication Technology,
Thailand, representing the host country; and Mr Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Operating
Officer, Ooredoo, representing the ICT industry and Qatar as host of ITU Telecom
World next year in December.
ITU Telecom World 2013 opens its doors from 19 to 22 November 2013, welcoming
key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, including ministers,
regulators, industry CEOs from across the entire ICT ecosystem, thought-leaders,
consultants, academics and digital innovators.
As the commercial hub of the emerging region of South East Asia and gateway
to the fast-growing ASEAN region, Bangkok provides the ideal standpoint from
which to explore the seismic changes taking place in the industry and in our
lives.
Under the central theme of "Embracing Change in a Digital World", ITU Telecom
World 2013 will focus on five central topics: changes in the way people
communicate with each other, the need for new business models in a data-centric
era, shifting industry dynamics, changes in technology and the need for new
regulatory and standardization approaches.
The event will feature a world-class forum of interactive debate, a lively
showfloor showcasing products, technologies and investment opportunities from
around the world and a range of networking events and occasions. The showfloor
will also host the InnovationSpace, where the finalists of the ITU Young
Innovators’ Competition will demonstrate their winning technology-based
solutions to developmental challenges, and The Lab, showing the future in action
from robotics to wearable tech and 3D printing.
“ITU Telecom World 2013 is the one conversation that matters,” said Dr Touré.
“It matters because it brings together the right people from industry and
government to debate the topics shaping the ICT sector, and indeed the world
– making the connections that can enable us to harness the power of new
technologies for the benefit of all world citizens, wherever they are.”
