ITU Telecom World 2012 opens 14 October in Dubai

Global ICT leaders focus on transformation of ICT industry

Dubai, UAE, 13 October 2012 – The clock is counting down to the launch of ITU Telecom World 2012 on Sunday, 14 October, for five days of pivotal discussion and debate on some of the hottest topics facing the ICT industry.

The world is changing faster than ever before in human history, thanks largely to the explosive growth of the ICT sector. New technologies, new industry players and new global trends will be at the heart of debates in Dubai.

Hundreds of industry leaders will come together with government ministers, regulators and manufacturers for five days of critical debate to shape the policies, regulations and competitive strategies of future communications. Click here to learn more.

ITU Telecom World 2012 leverages the unique reach of ITU as the lead UN agency for ICT issues offering a rare forum for discussion among global ICT leaders and experts who bring to the floor a wide array of national, regional and international perspectives. 

Who:

 

Heads of State and Government, ministers, heads of UN agencies, regulators, thought-leaders and major corporate stakeholders are heading to Dubai.

Spanning a high-level Leadership Summit, Panel Debates, Visionary Keynotes, Big Conversations and Ministerial Round Tables, sessions will provide an in-depth daily exploration of the following core areas:

  • Delivering Broadband: Exploring the challenges for established players in expanding services and embracing new business models in today’s highly competitive and fast-changing marketplace including sessions on who owns what data, industry dynamics and more.

  •  Beyond connectivity: An in-depth look at emerging opportunities, new dimensions and challenges arising from the transformed industry, with focus on privacy, service delivery, spectrum, and a series of sessions with key players in the field of cybersecurity.

  • Smart Applications: The enablers, examples and consequences of the new connectivity, including sessions on mobile money, e-Health, smart services and smart societies.

  • Designing the future: The shape of communications to come, focusing on human-centric networks.

Opening Ceremony

ITU Telecom World 2012 is open to media. Accreditation is compulsory.

The Opening Ceremony will commence at 10 am on 14 October in the Al Multaqua Hall, Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

All written Press must be seated and visual media in position by 09:45 am

The Opening Ceremony is expected to include the following dignitaries:

       His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of UAE and Emir of Dubai

       Dr Hamadoun I. Touré (Secretary-General, ITU)

       Ahmad Abdulkarim Julfar (Group CEO, Etisalat)

       Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Thani (Chairman, Qtel)

       Namadi Sambo (Vice President, Nigeria)

Media pools will operate for the Opening Ceremony and VVIP/VIP Tours

To be included in the two media pools, please contact Richard White at richard.white@axicom.com. If you do not pre-register for media pools, a first-come-first-served system will operate due to limited capacity.

Media pool 1 for TV crew and photographers at the  Opening Ceremony:

TV crew and photographers will have designated vantage points and will need to be in position in Al Mulatqua Hall by 09:45 am. Visual media will be required to remain in the Hall throughout the Opening Ceremony and will not be able to join the ribbon cutting and VVIP / VIP tours.

Media pool 2 for TV crew and photographers for the ribbon cutting and  VVIP / VIP Tours of the ICT showcase:

The ribbon cutting and VVIP tour led by the Secretary General of ITU and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will commence at 11 am and include a tour of the National Pavilions in the Sheik Rashid Hall. There will be designated vantage points for photographers for the ribbon cutting and along the route of the VVIP tour to enable photo opportunities. As part of this pool, media will not be able to attend the Opening Ceremony. Once the VVIP tour has departed the Sheikh Rashid Hall, TV crew and photographers will remain in the Hall to cover the VIP tour led by ITU Deputy Secretary-General.
