ITU Global Symposium for Regulators and Global Industry Leaders Forum

Geneva, 27 October 2010`– ITU’s Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR)
and Global Industry Leaders’ Forum provide a unique platform for industry,
regulators and policymakers to debate key issues on ICT development.
With the theme ‘Enabling tomorrow’s digital world’,
this 10th edition will focus on how regulators and
policymakers can meet the challenge of stimulating
nationwide broadband deployment through adaptive and
targeted regulations and out-of-the-box tools. Top
level decision makers and industry leaders will debate
the critical issues shaping tomorrow’s digital world,
including: the impact of broadband on the ICT sector
and beyond; the forces driving today’s and tomorrow’s
ICT markets, particularly in wireless sphere; and the
migration from analogue to digital terrestrial
broadcasting, including the digital dividend.
The regulatory debate will further focus on the
opportunities and challenges of living in the
information society, new disputes arising from the
digital world, the role ICTs can play in reducing the
carbon footprint, and measures to assess regulatory
efficiency.
The event is expected to welcome over 600 senior
participants from the international ICT regulatory
community, the private sector, regional and
international organizations, and other key stakeholders.
It is being held under the High Patronage of H.E.
Abdoulaye Wade, President of Senegal and will feature
the participation of ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun
Touré and the Director of ITU’s Telecommunication
Development Bureau, Mr Sami Al Basheer Al Morshid.
The GSR will be chaired by Mr Ndongo Diao, Director
General, Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and
Post (ARTP) of Senegal. The Global Industry Leaders’
Forum will be chaired by Mr El Amir Ahmed El Amir, CEO
of EXPRESSO.
Journalists are encouraged to accredit now for this
key event. Please note that formal accreditation
is essential for media and industry analysts wishing to
participate in this event onsite.

Media are invited to attend the full day’s session of the Global Industry
Leaders’ Forum on Tuesday 9 November, and the morning session of the GSR on
Wednesday 10 November, where the Chairman of the Global Industry Leaders’ Forum
and the Chairman of the Regulatory Associations meeting will present their
reports to GSR delegates, and where the symposium will consider the topic:
Building tomorrow’s digital world today: the impact of broadband on the economy.

For security reasons there will be strictly no
admittance to the event without a badge.
Journalists and analysts opting to accredit onsite must
bring with them all supporting documentation as required
