As the world embraces digital transformation to tackle pressing global challenges,
Kaleidoscope 2024: Innovation and Digital Transformation for a Sustainable World advances
key discussions on the intersection of technology and sustainability. In this 15th edition of the
Kaleidoscope academic conference, we look towards leveraging cutting-edge technologies to
drive positive change, particularly in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs).
Kaleidoscope 2024 highlights the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs)
in shaping a more sustainable future. The conference underscores how ICTs can address
societal challenges, from reducing energy consumption to improving digital inclusivity, by
enabling global connectivity and fostering digital ecosystems that are environmentally and
socially sustainable.
This year, Kaleidoscope 2024, kindly hosted by the Ministry of Communications with the
support of the government of India’s Department of Telecommunications will take place from
21 to 23 October 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, alongside the World
Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24).
The conference, brings together voices from academia, industry, and research institutions,
promoting discussions on emerging technological trends that are reshaping our digital world.
As we move into an era defined by cloud computing, artificial intelligence, the Internet of
Things, and more, the role of international standards in supporting digital transformation is
more critical than ever. This year’s theme highlights the importance of aligning technological
innovation with global sustainability objectives, emphasizing how standardization can drive
ethical, responsible, and environmentally conscious innovation.
Kaleidoscope 2024 will provide a platform for participants to present and discuss original
research that explores the implications of technological advancements for policy, regulation,
and the broader economy. The conference will offer insights into how the development and
adoption of international technical standards contributes to achieving the SDGs, ensuring that
the benefits of digital transformation are shared equitably and sustainably.
This conference continues to be a key initiative in ITU’s mission to promote a sustainable and
interconnected world. The growing interest in sustainable digital transformation across
economic sectors is testament to the increasing recognition of ICTs’ role in driving positive
change. I am deeply grateful for the ongoing support of the ITU Kaleidoscope community, and
for the contributions of academics, researchers, and industry leaders who are helping to shape
a more sustainable digital future.
